Sustainability Leadership
TThere is no doubt that the current economic crisis is making businesses rethink their survival strategies. In the past, environmental issues were considered a regulatory limitation, with organisations barely meeting legislation rather than going beyond. Now, survival depends on Green credentials – having more efficient and cleaner processes gives more rather than less opportunities - and with a savvy consumer population, room for lip service is thinning.
Leaders need to consider sustainability as a pioneering opportunity that can lead to enhanced profitability, new business and new markets. It takes strong leadership to provide the conditions where employees can come together collaboratively to find new approaches to business, and to challenge existing assumptions and norms.
This three day programme looks at the leadership behaviours that enable a Concept of Care to be the prevalent strategy from board level down. Leaders will look at their own values, beliefs and behaviours in their every day decision-making, and the impact those decisions have downstream both within and outside the organisation in the wider community. Environmental policy making will be examined from a behavioural perspective – asking “Do we have a strong vision of what we want to create?” and “What guidelines or modus operandi will result in the required behaviours”.
Topics such as energy saving efficiencies, carbon emissions, carbon credits, waste management, recycling are the standard fare of the “environment by numbers” approach – in contrast, we challenge participants to think about upcycling, cradle-to-cradle thinking, doing business differently, marketing ethics, designing for change, being a role model, longevity and holistic risk management.
It’s all about rethinking economic and environmental crisis as opportunity - and leading the change.
