Optimus Aiming To Build Team

Aberdeen safety, health and environmental consultant Optimus Safety Management said yesterday it was planning to increase it's team of 40 by at least 50% as a result of glowbal growth and diversification plans this year.

It said that since its formation by chief executive Steve Marples in 2003 the business had seen 180% year-on-year growth and reached £1million-plus turnover in 2007

Optimus achieved £3million turnover in 2008 and is on course to reach a target of £6million this year.

Mr Marples said that while the majority of the company's work was carried out in the North Sea, it had a blossoming  operation in Australia, which contributed almost a quarter of turnover, and had started to make inroads into America and Brazil.

He said: "We are also in the process of securing a joint venture in Holland and expanding our operations in south-east Asia. While 90% of our work is in the oil and gas industry, we are beginning to penetrate other high-risk industries such as mining, construction, utilities, and aviation, together with manufacturing and food."

Optimus specialises in implementing health and safety behaviour-based programmes in the workplace in high-risk industries to achieve culture change.
