  Measuring Behavioural Change
Friday 30th January 2009 12:37PM

Too many times we are attempting to make some difficult behavioural changes but still utilise (and become distracted by) lag indicators.  Other times we may become lulled into a false sense of security by so-called lead indicators - you know the sort of thing: number of observation cards or interventions (which are often distorted by false input data).

At Optimus we have developed  something called CAMS (Change Assessment Measurement System), a measuring tool that is based on 360 degree evaluation of safety behaviours and can provide some quantification and focus to an otherwise qualitative measure.

Our Occupational Psychologist and Senior Coaching Co-ordinator Antony Profili, explains a little of what our 360 degree CAMS process is and the benefits below:

·         What is a 360° Questionnaire?

A 360° questionnaire is a survey designed to capture the perceptions of an individual and his/her colleagues (eg peers, team members, supervisor, manager) and/or client on specific behaviours displayed by the individual at work. It is used to highlight both strengths and areas of development in the performance of an individual and/or team in the workplace.

·         What are the Benefits of a 360° Questionnaire?

Benchmarking Behaviour

A 360° questionnaire is very effective in identifying key behaviours, motivations, and attitudes of an individual or among teams which are both detrimental and conducive to optimum performance. It can therefore be utilised very effectively as a means of setting a baseline of behaviour at the outset of a behavioural change project.  As the behaviours are 'scored' with a numbering system, you can measure progress of individuals, team and the organisation over time and also target those safety behaviours that need greater focus.

Behavioural Coaching

A 360° questionnaire, as a measurement tool, is a very powerful means of identifying behavioural change across individuals and groups. As a result it can be used very effectively in identifying behaviours which have changed or remained stable over time: a behavioural coach can use this information to prioritise his/her coaching effort towards those behaviours which have changed the least and support those which have developed the most.

Professional Development

The question set of a 360° questionnaire can be tailored to focus specifically on professional attributes as specified in a job description or person specification. It can be adopted to capture trends in performance requirements of an individual: it therefore lends itself to compliment initiatives such as employee development programmes and leadership coaching interventions.

·         How can Optimus exceed your 360° questionnaire Requirements?

Optimus Safety Management Ltd has both the expertise and knowledge to design a 360° questionnaire specifically tailored to your organisation’s requirements whether as a tool for benchmarking behaviour, measuring behavioural change over time, or complimenting a professional development programme.

We will be able to exceed your requirements by giving very detailed and comprehensive feedback of the questionnaire results in the form of both a graphical representation and a summary of qualitative responses. We will also be able to highlight changes in behaviour by means of re-administration of the questionnaire at specific intervals when appropriate.
