it's not what you do but how you do it that makes the difference

It’s one thing knowing that we should follow rules, and quite another choosing to live our lives in a more considerate, thoughtful way. When we talk about change in Optimus, we talk about creating the conditions where it is personally and emotionally safe to change ourselves.

We introduce leaders, managers, supervisors, responsible people and teams to the idea that in order for change to take place, we need some basic agreements in place about the way we treat each other. As we always say, without emotional safety, you don’t get physical safety. To get individuals to speak up and challenge the safety ethos of an organisation, we have to make it emotionally safe for them to do so. A bullying or power-over culture will drive people into silent consent. Where individuals are encouraged to speak up about their safety concerns and appreciated for wanting to make the workplace safe, you will find a more humane challenge taking place. Anger, frustration, apathy, a belief that ‘I can’t make a difference’ are all part of the culture of an organisation that is inherently unsafe.

How we do it

We give people the skills and capabilities to be self reflective, to look at themselves and their part in the creation of a culture or microculture, and enable them to try out new personal strategies safely. We facilitate change within groups, and enable them to go back to the workplace knowing what needs to change, and how to tackle that change. We help the organisation to bring about change at the right level in order to ensure sustainability of that change. Our innovative programmes focus on achieving that change through a shift in behaviours, attitudes and beliefs, always looking for the difference that makes the difference.

This phase provides a platform for behavioural change by equipping your teams with the more difficult but essential ‘softer skills’ that are often overlooked in change programmes.
